Life Skills: Sportsmanship & Working Hard

KAN Do Hoops is a basketball academy in Lawrence where young boys and girls go to learn the X’s and O’s of the sport. Our Happy Parents

“Our son, Cody, has been working with Nick since he was six. The fundamentals that the KanDo program provided him have paid off time and time again. Each coach he works with at camp he participates in and school teams he plays on always talk about Cody as a team player with strong fundamentals – all skills he learned from KanDo.”

“Both of our boys have had great experiences playing with KanDo Hoops. KanDo is consistently well-organized, and you can expect great communication with coaches. What I like the most about the experience for our kids is that, while they’re receiving good basketball instruction and constructive feedback to improve their games, the top priority is always on good sportsmanship and conduct and coaches are leading by example.”

Our boys have played for KAN Do for several years and they love playing for Coach Nick. For us, Nick strikes a great balance in providing both a fun and competitive environment. It not only helps the kids to improve their individual skills and teamwork now, but it instills a love for a great game they will enjoy playing for years to come.

We also appreciate KAN Do’s emphasis on being a good teammate and sportsmanship in game situations, traits Nick always exemplifies for the kids. We highly recommend Coach Nick and his program.

Rick & Cathy S.

Our son has thoroughly enjoyed his KAN Do Hoops experience. He’s participated in both the winter and summer seasons as well as individual summer workouts. Nick and his coaching staff understand that all of the kids are still at different levels in their basketball IQ. The coaches are supportive and focus on improvement throughout the season.

Coaches Corner

We have an excellent group of experienced coaches

  • Nick Marshall is founder and head coach of KAN Do Hoops. “I started to feel like fundamentals were a lost art.  I wanted to get back to the roots and felt the best way to achieve that was to start instilling fundamentals at an early age.”

    Coach Nick Marshall
  • Ive been an assistant coach at Bishop Seabury for 3 years, coached Lawrence City League/Hoopsters for 4 years, and CYO for 2 years. I believe in tough, physical man to man defense. Defend, rebound and run. Play with pace and play with space offensively.

    Coach Chris Thompson
  • Jesse and his wife Torrie are Community Development networkers with Called To Greatness. They enjoy equipping and empowering families and individuals. Jesse has been coaching for 14 years. He has coached football, baseball and basketball.

    Coach Jesse Brinson
  • Currently in his 5th year, Coach Wilmes believes it is important that today’s youth are allowed the opportunity to play many different sports, while being taught proper fundamentals in a positive, enjoyable and team-centered manner.

    Coach Aaron Wilmes
  • Coaching for 2 years.
Played basketball my whole life, and trying to turn that experience into good coaching.
Probably the only Duke basketball fan in Lawrence.
I pride myself on team defense and effort.
